Requirements

HOW TO BECOME A LICENSED INSURANCE AGENT IN GEORGIA

Qualifications

• Be a Georgia Resident for at least six months every year or have a principal place of business within the state.

• Be at least 18 years of age.

• Be of good character, and a license may be refused if the Georgia Department of Insurance finds any of the following grounds listed in O.C.G.A. § 33-23-21

Requirements

  1. Completion of 40-hour online or in-person Property and Casualty pre-licensing course.

  2. Upon completion of the pre-licensing course, you will need to pass a Pre-Licensing Course Certification Exam with a 70% or higher.

  3. Register and pass state licensing exam (Make a reservation at Pearson Vue). 

  4. Complete GID-276-EN Citizenship Affidavit and verifiable identification https://oci.georgia.gov/citizenshipaffidavit

  5. Apply for license at NIPR or Sircon                                                                                                                         Applicants must apply for licensure within 12 months from receiving a passing grade on the examination. For more information regarding obtaining a license go to www.oci.georgia.gov. After 60 days from the date of an application deficiency notice, if the application remains incomplete, the application will be closed and the applicant will forfeit the license application fee. At that time, the applicant will have to re-apply and re-submit the application fee.

  6. Fingerprints (submitted electronically)                                                                                                                    Applicants will receive a registration approval email from GBI. Take your approval message with you to a fingerprint site and they will take your fingerprints.

  7. Continuing Education: 24 Hours/ biennium (min. 3 in Ethics)

HOW TO BECOME A LICENSED INSURANCE AGENT IN ALABAMA

Qualifications

 

• Be an Alabama Resident 

• Be at least 18 years of age.

​• Must be a US citizen or have a current work authorization.

Requirements

 

Effective January 1st, 2024, Alabama Department of Insurance will no longer require pre-licensing education courses.

Alabama does not require licensing candidates to complete pre-licensing education; however, it is recommended to complete an exam prep course before attempting to take your state’s licensing exam.

  1. Completion of 40-hour online or in-person Property and Casualty pre-licensing course. (Optional)

  2. Register and pass state licensing exam

  3. Submit Fingerprints

  4. Apply for License Complete an online application and pay a fee

  5. Print License (after 5 days from submitting application, check Alabama Department of Insurance website, and go to the License Search under Producers/Agents to confirm issuance of your license. Once license is issued, you may print your license from the home page.

  6. Continuing Education: 24 Hours/ biennium (min. 3 in Ethics)
